Residents at a care home in Portishead celebrated this year’s Valentine’s Day with a very special afternoon of activities.

An exquisite three course lunch was laid on for residents at Haven Lodge care home, several of whom were joined by their partners to celebrate the special occasion.

Residents were given the opportunity to show their creativity and bring a dash of romance to the home by making Valentine’s Day cards and helping to decorate heart-shaped cakes.

Among the residents enjoying the celebrations were husband and wife Ray and Millie Neave, who were married in 1953 at Filton Church and spent their married life in Chipping Sodbury until they moved to Portishead in 2003. Both Millie and Ray now live together at the home.

Fran Stockwell, Home Manager, said: “We wanted residents to be able to celebrate Valentine’s Day in whatever way they chose.

“It was heartwarming to see and hear residents celebrating, reminiscing and speaking about their loved ones. Staff were really happy to be able to bring a real sense of occasion to the celebrations.”
