Fiver Fest returns to Nailsea is currently running until October 23, giving shoppers the chance to bag plenty of bargains for £5, all in the name of supporting local businesses. This UK-wide initiative, now in its sixth year, is a free-to-join campaign run by Totally Locally, a grass roots high street organisation that has been helping businesses and high streets to help themselves since 2010 with incredible results. Shoppers are encouraged to think local, with the knowledge that if every adult in Nailsea spent just £5 per week in their local independent shops and businesses, it would mean £3 million per year going directly into the local economy, which could lead to more jobs, a better high street and a stronger economy.

One of the local businesses taking part is Simply Green Zero Waste. The eco-friendly shop has a number of offers in store, including a kitchen starter kit of eco washing up brush, 1l washing up liquid and 500ml hand soap, and a soap set comprising a Backwell Botanicals soap bar and a bamboo soap dish.

Bethan Walker, director and founder of Simply Green, said: “Fiver Fest is now a big part of our promotions of local products. The independent shops and businesses are what makes our town special and unique. The community support for local businesses has been amazing during lockdown, so these offers are to say thank you to customers, and to highlight the great value and economic impact of shopping locally.”

Other champions of Fiver Fest include: Flower Bee Florist; Greens; Cafe 119; Chic Blooms; Kids Party Pack Hire; Ring O Bells; John Brown Hardware; Coates House; S & R Burchills; Home Additions LTD; and Samuel Bird TV, where the £5 offer is for a 24 pack of AA and AAA batteries, which normally retail at £7.99. To find out which businesses are taking part, visit
