Flagship Boutique’s brands connect consumers with ethical choices

Perhaps one of the greatest plusses to arise out of the pandemic is the way the world has been forced to slow down and think more about the choices made when it comes to where we buy from and what we buy. This has certainly helped boost awareness of the importance of shopping locally, as well as fuelling a greater interest in brands that put the planet first. “There is definitely a movement toward more consumer awareness,” said Ivan Hargrave, Director of Portishead’s Flagship Boutique. “Customers are becoming more aware of the eco credentials of brands, many of which are shifting towards more environmentally friendly fabrics and sourcing from countries closer to home.”

Organic cotton is among these eco-friendly fabrics, whose benefits compared to normal cotton are that no pesticides and much less water are used in its cultivation. Tencel, a fairly new natural fibre, is also making a greater appearance, according to Ivan. “We’re seeing brands such as Weird Fish and Seasalt using more of these fabrics, while Joules has developed its own brand-new fabric that will be introduced this autumn.”

As well as a fantastic range of fashion, Flagship Boutique is also the place to find plenty of planet-friendly gift ideas, with a number of different lines of products, such as socks, coats, bags and more, made from recycled plastic bottles. A recent addition to the shop is the hugely popular DCUK brand of wooden ducks, which are made from bamboo root, one of the fastest growing and therefore sustainable woods. The ducks are all carved, painted and moulded by hand, meaning no two are the same. Flagship Boutique’s choice of the Carrie Elspeth brand, meanwhile, offers customers jewellery beautifully handmade in Cowbridge near Cardiff, which means that purchases support a small UK business with a minimal eco footprint involved in their transportation.

Flagship Boutique’s summer sale has officially started, so now is a great time to pop into the shop and discover some of the best brands around at the best prices. And for those that are unable to visit, the website, www.flagshipboutique.co.uk, offers free delivery in the UK or click & collect on any order.
